Description

I recommend this book because it offers a unique perspective on Ancient Egypt that delves beyond the commonly known pharaohs and pyramids to shed light on the everyday experiences of the farmers, soldiers, laborers, and families that constituted the majority of the civilization. Adventure awaits as Stanley finds himself in a new fix, this time involving underground tomb, ancient treasure and impressive pyramids. Additionally, this book provides interesting facts about Egyptian culture, including pyramid building, mummification, and even the worshiping of cats. Ancient Egypt is one of those subjects that lends itself to large-format books, and has done so for the last 200 years. Published in collaboration with The British Museum, this children’s information book offers a humorous and informative introduction to daily life in Ancient Egypt and has a high appeal to readers in KS2.

Not only does it explore the well-known aspects of ancient Egypt, but it also introduces readers to lesser-known details about hieroglyphs, gods, and battles for power. Several jobs later Dugald began working at Templar Publishing, where he worked his way up to Senior Editor, writing and editing many books in house. Political rivalries are charted through the successive dynasties, from the strife of the intermediate periods to the golden ages of prosperity and artistic glory under Akhenaten, Tutankhamun and Ramesses II. Whether you’re interested in learning about the powerful pharaohs, the Great Pyramids, or the diverse pantheon of deities, this book has something for everyone. This visually stunning history guide introduces the Egyptian gods and pharaohs, the mysteries of mummification, the great pyramids, the language of hieroglyphics, the world of Egyptian wildlife and much, much more!

Perfectly combining Nick Reeves’ authoritative text with lavish illustrations, it manages to create a real sense of adventure while showing how Egyptology developed as a subject, explaining why we know what we know about ancient Egypt – and what we don’t! Its stunning photographs and interactive glossary make Everything Ancient Egypt an absolute page-turner, leaving you wanting to learn even more about this ancient civilization. The groundbreaking OLOGY series, which includes Dragonology , has sold more than 18 MILLION copies worldwide.

Every time he left the palace, he did so with military detachments – very like a president going forth with motorcycle outriders. Humorous and stylish without compromising on factual content, this book is a popular choice with reluctant or younger readers. The final chapter is most valuable, as it gives the reader a series of double-page infographics which detail some of the historical content; such as mummification and ‘the journey of the dead’. He has illustrated many books for children including the Smarties book Prize-winning Firework Maker's Daughter by Phillip Pullman.Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc. Helen Ward trained at Brighton School of Art, under the direction of well-known children's illustrators including Raymond Briggs. I recommend this book because it provides an engaging and informative look into the mythology of ancient Egypt. The book looks at how Akhenaten has been co-opted and hijacked by a whole different range of groups, from psychoanalysts to protestant fundamentalists to gay rights campaigners. With a glorious gold foil cover and quirky colour illustrations on every page, children aged 7+ will enjoy learning lots more about mummies!

This superb book takes you into the world of the Ancient Egyptians through the artefacts left behind and shines a light on some of the most fascinating mysteries of the time by focusing on historical sourcework. I firmly believe we must all make room for experiencers to tell their stories without recrimination. Perhaps this is because to an untrained eye those hieroglyphs are identifiable as something—humans, animals, representations of plants and things—and the pyramids are identifiable as burial sites, and yet knowing the function of these phenomena merely enhances the apparent weirdness and incomprehensibility of the culture that produced them. He was also the consultant for the BBC’s award-winning documentary on the building of the Great Pyramid. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

The illustrations and specially commissioned drawings that accompany the text are simply breathtaking, making it easy to appreciate the lavish tomb paintings, imposing temple reliefs, and humble household shrines that reflect the numerous tributes throughout Egypt. Moreover, the text is written in short sentences organised by bullet points means that it’s easy to digest the information being presented. This is a good choice for upper KS2, full of mystery and a sure winner for fans of action and adventure. There’s plenty of interesting information to get from the book, but the quality and thought out into this is great.
