Photos with flash show no signs of red-eye, and the camera has used a fairly low ISO speed. Dynamic range is quite good, with the camera avoiding over-exposure where possible. You can use the iDynamic option or HDR option to record an extended dynamic range in images. The HDR shooting mode is found in the menus but isn't available if you're shooting raw, and can result in a softer image, albeit with improved dynamic range.

If we’ve a grumble, however, it’s that this isn’t perhaps a camera for shooting in very low light, especially if handheld, as we discovered on our travels, whereby the effects of camera shake are obvious. The fact that the ISO range tops out at a modest selectable ISO3200 at least means that the worst effects of image noise are avoided – we’d advise shooting up to ISO1600, however and leaving it at that, if you want to avoid a noticeable softening and degradation of the image entirely. Twenty megapixels is quite a lot to cram onto a 1/2.3-inch sensor – it’s probably the most you’d want to – so inevitably something has to give. If detail softens at maximum zoom that is only to be expected, especially when shooting handheld, but again results are better than we’ve seen elsewhere from similar products and will certainly satisfy those wanting a record of sunny summer holidays.

In terms of key operational features, if you do end up using the Panasonic Lumix ZS80’s EVF, you’ll find that it features an impressive 2.3 million dots of resolution, this improved spec being one of the very few differences indeed between this model and the earlier TZ90. The view via the display itself is best described as life-like on the ZS80. Approx. 90 min (rear monitor), 80 min (LVF)/FHD/60p, FHD/50p: Approx. 100 min (rear monitor), 90 min (LVF) The electronic viewfinder is on the small side, but it’s usable – particularly in very sunny situations, where bright light might preclude the use of the screen. Of course, there are also folk who just prefer to compose that way. Being able to shoot in 4K gives you the option to create good-quality videos, but perhaps more interestingly, it enables the use of 4K Photo. In essence, you can extract stills (at 8 megapixel) from 4K video clips specifically recorded for this purpose. This can be a great way to capture fleeting moments when the subject is moving a little too fast to otherwise keep up with (kids, pets, sports, and wildlife for example). Video - The TZ95 records 4K UHD video, at 30 or 25fps. FullHD video can be recorded at 60, 50, 30, 25fps. You can also record high-speed video at 120, 100fps, at 720p resolution. You can also set the camera to give you manual controls for video recording. As well as the new vlogger tools, older models to compare and contrast with the TZ95 include the Canon PowerShot SX740 HS. This boasts a similar form factor yet has a broader focal range courtesy of a whopping 40x optical zoom. Just like the Panasonic it offers a 20.3 megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor, and under ideal daylight conditions provides color-rich, punchy images requiring little if any image adjustment afterward. The camera itself looks relatively boxy and chunky when ranged against the average mobile phone it will inevitably be competing with in today’s market – in no small part due to that generous 30x optical zoom, which retracts within the body when not in use; said lens encircled by a lens control ring, to which certain key settings can be pre-assigned (or said lens ring simply provides another means of adjusting the zoom/your focal range when in intelligent iAuto setting).
