Description

American publisher Stronghold Games reprinted a new version of the game under the title Survive: Escape from Atlantis! in February 2011. In June 2012, Stronghold Games launched another new edition, "Survive: Escape From Atlantis! - 30th Anniversary Edition". It included refreshed artwork and a slightly revised theme (Explorers finding and escaping from Atlantis). Simultaneously, French publisher, Asmodee, licensed the EU languages and launched "The Island", which is the same game as Stronghold's version, but with a rebranded name for EU trademark purposely only. In 2012 "The Island" (Survive: Escape from Atlantis) was a '2012 Juego del Ano Finalist'. In 2013, Stronghold Games launched a '5-6 Player Mini Expansion Kit' plus 'Dolphins & Dive Dice Expansion Kit' and 'The Giant Squid Expansion Kit' for "Survive: Escape from Atlantis! - 30th Anniversary Edition". All three expansion kits can also be played with Asmodee's "The Island". There are different restrictions on movements of explorers depending on where they are located on the board. If they are still on a landscape tile then they can be moved to adjacent tile or move to an adjacent ship. Explorers on land can move up to three spaces, however, if an explorer is in a sea space (known as a swimmer) then they can only move 1 space per round. An explorer can move into the sea or onto a ship but they cannot return to land. A swimmer can only move into a ship if it is sharing the same space. Once the game begins; explorers can share the same spaces and occupy the same tiles. Ships In 1986, Waddingtons launched their three-dimensional version Escape from Atlantis in the UK with revised rules. Waddingtons also sold a bilingual (English/French) version of Escape from Atlantis in Canada. The game was sublicensed in 1987 and sold in Australia and New Zealand. Waddingtons also sublicensed Escape from Atlantis in Europe to Schmidt Spiele of Germany. The game sold in Europe in many languages including Finnish, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, French and German.

Gameplay works on an action point allowance system, where you can have three movement actions available to you, so you may opt to move one person three times, or a variety of people once. People will be scrambling to get their people into the limited number of boats that sit on the island’s edge, and then, if they ‘control’ the boat (have the most people in one), they can move the boat towards one of the safe isles, too. This VersionIncludes custom models, a custom board, scripting, and all expansions (as of September 2020)! Play proceeds with the cycle of: move three times, remove a tile and move a creature. Each player takes their turns until either all of the remaining meeples have escaped to safety, or a volcano is revealed on the reverse of one of the mountain terrain tiles. The player with the highest value meeples saved wins the game. Sink or Swim? When the explorers reach one of the four corners of the board they can be moved onto dry land and will stay there until the end of the game. The four corners are equal in worth and any player can move to any corner. These explorers are now safe and have escaped the dangers of the sea creatures. The end of the game is triggered when a volcano is revealed under the tile of a mountain landscape. The volcano erupts and any tokens (explorers, ships, creatures and landscapes) that are still on Atlantis or in the sea are removed from the game. The players will then total up how much treasure they have manged to gain from Atlantis. The explorers will be turned upside down to reveal the number, these are then totalled up and the player with the most points wins! Alternative GameplayPlay a red-edged tile in your hand. At the beginning of the game this action is skipped since no one has any red-edged tiles. Although Mica was our captain, Lewis was our GM. If we had needed help, I have no doubt in my mind that it would have been delivered at exactly the right moment to avoid any frustration. I can say this with certainty because although we experienced a bit of glitchy tech, it was handled in such a smooth manner that we actually had no idea that there was a problem until the debrief after our game. In fact, Lewis was paying such close attention to our game that he could remember who did what to solve each puzzle when we received our mission debrief. This attention to detail isn’t unique to Lewis – every member of staff at The Escapement runs their games in the same fashion. It is impressive, and refreshing to have such a thorough explanation following a game not only of what happened but exactly how it happened in your game and really makes a difference to the player experience. ANYTHING ELSE Rules [ edit ] A remake of Escape of Atlantis to commemorate its 30th anniversary. Game start [ edit ] When moving sea creatures, once they cross a sea space with a destroyable object, they stop. A red-edged tile played to negate the effects of a sea creature removes the sea creature from the board. End of Game & Scoring During Action 2 of each turn, you can make movements of explorers and ships, however, there are specific movement rules that needs to be complied with. Explorers

Survive: Escape from Atlantis: https://strongholdgames. com/ our-games/ survive-escape-from-atlantis/Starting with the first player, each player will take turns to place a ship token on an empty sea space that is adjacent to a landscape tile of any type. Gameplay Actions As I mentioned, the game ends when volcano tile is revealed. Players then tally up the points indicated on the bottom of their explorers who made it safely to shore at the corners of the board. In June 2012, Stronghold Games relaunched a new edition, "Survive: Escape From Atlantis! The US retail date of this edition of "Survive" was June 6, 2012. When travelling by boat, the player can also move a boat with villagers from other tribes on it, provided the player's tribe holds a non-minority position (in other words, no other tribe has more members in the same boat). This creates a tactical element by allowing players to transport other players' villagers. The building that houses The Escapement in Broadstairs is impressive from the outside, but once you’re inside, it becomes truly special. The theming for Atlantis spills out into the reception area, and it’s here that we sat with Lewis, Mica, and Mochi (the most amazing dog on the planet), chatting about all things Escape Rooms and Escapement, before it was time to board the submarine for an underwater adventure. Bonus picture of Mochi – because look at that face! IMMERSION/ROOM DESIGN

Throughout the game players attempt to ferry their explorers to safety while avoiding whales and krakens. But, you don’t necessarily have to rely on the boats. Explorers can attempt to swim to safety. Numbered Explorers & Memorization I feel that this review reflects my own, independent and honest opinion, but the facts below allow you to decide whether you think that I was influenced in any way. Any terrain tiles that you remove that are green-edged must be revealed immediately. Green-edged tiles can reveal anything, from a shark, to a whale, or even a whirl-pool. At the start of the game, the island tiles are shuffled, and the island of Atlantis is built at the centre of the game board. A whale can move up to three spaces and if they end their turn on a space with a ship then the whale will capsize it. The explorers will turn into swimmers and the boat will be removed from the game. Nothing happens if a whale shares a space with a swimmer. Tile ActionsIf you want a fun game that’s really easy to teach and has a huge amount of schadenfreude, then Survive is definitely for you.
