Mr. Woof – A Yorkshire terrier who is a friend of Sweep, he barks in communication, eats, and sleeps. Harry Corbett (1955–1975) – The show's first presenter and the creator of Sooty. Corbett ran the programme mostly within a sketch-based format throughout his era, later creating the characters of Sweep and Soo to accompany the show. His most notable contribution to the show, aside from the puppet characters, was the catchphrase he used to conclude an episode's run, which would continue to be used by his successors – "Bye bye, everybody. Bye bye." Harry returned to the programme as a guest star during his son Matthew's era, and was knighted with an OBE for his contributions with the programme and characters following his retirement. As can be seen from his long association with the show, Peter Jago was held in high esteem by those he worked with. By maintaining his working materials so well over the years, he has left a legacy which will allow fans to hold onto their childhood memories.” In 1955, a magician from Bradford made his TV debut with an amber teddy bear glove puppet called Sooty. Butch – A dark brown male dog, like Sweep, but able to talk. Introduced by Harry Corbett in the early 1970s, the character was withdrawn by his son Matthew in 1980, returning to guest star in the role of a villain.

Sweep made his first appearance on Channel Four as himself in the eighth episode of the second series of The Harry Hill Show. He started off as a stage and production manager before becoming one of the show's main puppeteers when he operated Sweep's voice. After leaving the show briefly in 1985, Mr Jago rejoined in 1993 and worked there until he retired in the early 2000s.

From 2009, stage shows again featured Richard Cadell. The first, Sooty in Space, was a reworking of one of Matthew Corbett's scripts, and toured the country throughout the year. Brian Sandford - The Sooty Show, Sooty & Co., Sooty Heights, Sooty, Sooty (1987 - 2001, 2005 - presents) During Matthew Corbett's reign, seven stage shows were performed repetitively. For the first half of the tours, Matthew and Connie Creighton would present, and during the second half, while Matthew was busy writing and filming the TV shows, Connie and Spencer K. Gibbens would present. Marjorie Corbett (1964–1981) – The first voice of Soo, whom her husband Harry had created as a talking female panda. She remained a part of the show until after the first series of the format change. According to Brenda Longman, who took over the voice of Soo, the reason Marjorie was replaced was because her heavy smoking caused her to be short of breath. It was also felt that she made Soo sound too old. From his magic wand to his water pistol, Sooty has been a children’s favourite for almost 70 years. Now original puppets of Sooty, Sweep and Soo used in the TV shows and on stage will feature in Ewbank’s Entertainment Memorabilia auction on November 18.
