My post about how to get rid of gnats in houseplants is one of my more popular posts, and it features a product I get asked about a lot: The Katchy indoor insect trap! While devices like the Katchy indoor insect trap work great to get rid of pests like mosquitoes, removing bodies of standing, stagnant water helps prevent them in the first place. I added a capful of apple cider taped off with a few holes next to the kitchen one, and it was literally carpeted with fruit flies in the bottom. The lack of harsh insecticide makes it safe to use anywhere in your house, including in the kitchen and around houseplants and fish tanks. Once you’ve emptied the bottom of the trap, just put a new glue board into the device and you’re ready to go again.

This pest-eliminating machine discreetly traps and kills fruit flies, gnats, mosquitos, and other small flying insects without chemicals or odors. I have to take a q-tip to the top of both my Katchy’s weekly to keep the house glorp from obstructing airflow (also have to do it to our tower fans). The light isn't overly bright and there are no other attractants, like heat or carbon dioxide to lure them in. The light will attract mosquitoes, fruit flies, or gnats into the fan which pulls them down into the machine, getting them stuck on the glue trap below. If it had non-visual attraction methods it would be more effective, but a solid range on the UV light earns it a 7/10.I once opened the trap to see how it was doing and saw a fly stuck on the pad, still fluttering its wings, trying to escape.

There is no fan but the light is brighter and the adhesive on the StickyTech glue cards is stronger. I can speak from experience on that last one—I have found a few mosquitos in my trap during the summer! Bugs need to fly into the small space near and under the light on the Katchy to be pulled in by the fan, which leaves a lot of potential escape area. You want the Katchy light to be the brightest in the area so all the flying insects are attracted to it and can’t miss it. The vents at the top of the Katchy don’t allow larger bugs such as house flies or bees into the trap, so it won’t work on them. In my opinion, it’s a better alternative to sticky tape traps or bug zappers as they’re safer, mess-free, and make less noise. I don't think it will catch sewer flies but those tend to respond to hot vinegar flushed through a running disposal with hot sink water, then follow with a cut up lemon and some ice cubes run through the disposer. Generally, we think that the process of delivering the products from USA to India would be very expensive and complicated.
