Also, the murder of the two missing young boys was solved, although not without some additional heartbreak for the team. Having said that the book had gripping tense moments throughout, the identity of the serial killer wasn't what I was expecting. Bizarrely, this killing matches in e very detail a series of murders that took place a couple of years previously. The Torment of Others - Wikiwand

A week after the night she chases but fails to catch a mysterious trespasser outside her town house, some unknown party texts Tempe four images of a corpse that looks as if it’s been chewed by wild hogs, because it has been. Due to the rave review of "The Wire in the Blood" mini series and countless acclaims on McDermid's works among some of my favorite authors, I finally get the chance to give this book a try. Again the spotlight is slightly more on Carol; the first two books focused more on Tony, the third more on Carol. They are attracted to each other and would be perfect for each other if they could just get some of the issues in their lives squared away. This time, Carol is drawn back into the police action by her former boss after she's taken a sabbatical following a sting operation gone wrong.

The major problem of this novel is that it is not dramatic enough to grab readers' attention and stimulates their emotional reactions. Adding to the pain is the presence of McDermid's detective, Carol Jordan, who has survived an undercover operation gone terribly wrong, only to find herself subjecting another officer to the same risk. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. McDermid’s Tony Hill and Carol Jordan series tends to be on the dark and rather gruesome side of crime. The latest outing for Hill, The Torment of Others, also features McDermid's other richly realised creation, DCI Carol Jordan, and the author carries her familiar protagonists into truly unsettling new areas.

The Torment of Others (Tony Hill and Carol Jordan, Book 4)

Hypnotic mind-control, sexual trauma overcome by a roll in bed with a good-looking hunk, and dead ends jump-started by fortuitous computer photos make McDermid’s latest exercise in serial murder (The Distant Echo, 2003, etc.If the processing is for direct marketing purposes, you may exercise this right at any time as described above. However, I fell in love with McDermid's writing style with The Grave Tattoo so it was a foregone conclusion that I would read another. Of course, he is treating the 4-time convicted murderer and trying to discover his patient’s connection to the new crimes. I don't really want to make the sadistic nature of the plot the issue here, as it then makes it sound as if the problem could be with my low gore tolerance and high falutin' moral values, but y'know, I have read and enjoyed the likes of American Psycho.

The Torture Of Others - The New York Times Regarding The Torture Of Others - The New York Times

Each year Eliot's presence reasserts itself at a deeper level, to an audience that is surprised to find itself more chastened, more astonished, more humble. Two years earlier, strong forensic evidence put serial killer Derek Tyler behind bars in a mental hospital. But she is persuaded to do so--and realises that one of her main tasks will be to create a cohesive unit. I know Tony Hill is supposed to be an expert in the pschology of sexual homicide, but in this case the violent methods deployed are nothing to do with the case or criminal. This is the first book I've read featuring the characters, but I was irritated by it before the novel is even half-way through.Stunning psychological thriller featuring Tony Hill, hero of The Wire in the Blood, from one of Britain's bestselling novelists For some, there is nothing so sweet, so thrilling, as the torment of others! Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. Two cases end on her desk: missing boys, taken months apart, with no bodies or much new info, and grotesquely murdered prostitutes killed the same way as a previous trail.
