Description

Battle of Pelennor Fields: The Lord of the Rings is a starter set containing 84 miniatures. Prepare to enter the world of Middle-Earth and recreate battle scenes as King Théoden and the Riders of Rohan make their arrival. Defend the city of Minas Tirith and take control over the forces of Evil and cause war upon the kingdom of Gondor!

Whilst I am not overly familiar with the competitive scene for Middle Earth Strategy Battles , I understand that earlier versions of the rules allowed for a few slightly overpowered (and strange) possibilities. Eagles carrying hand axes (because the rules said they were equipped with one handed weapons and that meant any of the available options in that category, as long as it was glued to the model) were apparently a thing. The 2018 version of these rules that come bundled in Battle of the Pelennor Fields prevent such things, and I think it’s quite impressive that the ruleset is capable of catering for hardcore, competitive gamers and play-at-home hobbyists in equal measure. Warriors of Rohan: foot-soldiers who make up the rank and file of the armies of Rohan. 4 models are armed with bows, 4 with hand weapons and shields, and 4 with spears and shields; In total, including the four characters, is a staggering 84 miniatures and a great start to any good or evil force. Players who simply wish to collect and paint the exceptional models that Games Workshop produce would do well to invest in a set like this if only for the sheer value for money. Likewise, anyone who is serious about setting themselves up with one or more armies in the world of Middle Earth Strategy Battle s will also feel that the best value can be found with Pelennor Fields . Personally, I think it’s also an excellent one versus one boxed game that doesn’t necessarily required expansion, having already far more in the box than the likes of Rune Wars or Star Wars: Legion .

The Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game seems to really focus on interesting story games, allowing characters access to all of the actions that you have seen in the films. The focus on highly competitive wargames is to strip down the rules to avoid ambiguity and allow for straight-forward play with the focus on competition, where as the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game needs to have all the details for water, sieges, and different levels of terrain, as that's the dynamic action we want to see from the characters to create the stories we play. The Mount Doom scene is included in the bundle and Bundle: Gift Edition boxes, as well as non-foil versions in collector boosters. If you are new to MESBG, this is a great deal and nice way to start – with clear options for next steps to expand your fighting force… with the caveat that the majority of the models are very old. The narrative mission booklet has a handful of missions than can function as tutorial missions, as well as more complex versions as you develop your skills and collection. For existing fans, it’s worth weighing the new book, terrain, and heroes against models you may already own. I do wonder if newer fans might bounce off of the old models, though. The sprue for King Theoden. This is a nice sprue and gives you options to use a helmeted head or bareheaded.
