Description

Every generation, at the coming of the Blood Moon, seven families in the remote city of Ilvernath each name a champion to compete in a tournament to the death. L. Herman’s New York Times bestselling All of Us Villains duology that's The Hunger Games with magic. With its innovative magic system, a twisted cast of characters you somehow can’t help but love, and a plot that will leave you on the edge of your seat, All of Us Villains is addicting from start to finish.

There were twists and turns a plenty in this book, and, just like the characters, we really don't know who the hell we can trust till the very end!Foody and Herman’s collaboration offers a fun yet brutal tale of sacrifice, betrayal, and ever-shifting loyalties.

This next part may be considered spoilery so skip if you don’t want to know - I think the only thing that could have made AOOD better for me, and I feel a savage saying this, is if another champion met their demise earlier on in the novel. They’ve been tossed into a death tournament that most of them have been preparing for their whole lives. Most of our remaining characters are cursed, and their various curses are extremely personal, illuminating and challenging them in specific ways. I am absolutely going to read more from both Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman in the future, and I am absolutely going to keep recommending All of Us Villains and All of Our Demise to anyone looking for exciting YA fantasy. The action and plenty of twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat, kept me on my toes, and forced me to turn the pages at lightning speed. The action reminded Briony of the two of them pretending to press crystals into the walls of the Thorburn manor home, mimicking the fairy tale. Even if nothing of it could be real, I still felt all the pain the characters felt, I even cried because it’s impossible not to with a book like this. It was delightful and satisfying to watch their personal growth, to witness their fears and their hopes, and finally see them come out of it definitely not unscathed (more like heavily traumatized) but as better people. Some might argue more could have been done with the world-building, as we never really get a sense of the wider world beyond Ilvernath even in this second book, but personally I liked the insularity of the setting - it reminded me of The Scorpio Races where the characters feel similarly trapped by their circumstances and the location reflects that.

And Isobel, whose beauty is her armor and whose public face is what has given her a chance in this competition (and reunited her with her father and his side of the family), finds herself turning into a living corpse, devoid of her beauty and even her breath and forced to rediscover herself without it… and come to terms with the fact that her family legacy is a curse. Spectacularly written, gripping and with really excellent and well drawn characters, you find yourself staying up far later than you should - just to keep reading. You have to pair the right Relic with its Landmark’s pillar, and it activates a trial—a final defense to stop you from breaking a piece of the tournament. This addictive modern fantasy novel is a dark, magical story where heritage counts, and alliances are made and broken, in a battle in which there can only be one winner . When reading All of us Villains, I quickly came to realise that the story wasn't going to go as expected and that I couldn't guess what would happen next. This was true with All of our Demise too, albeit it to a lesser extent, but even with the plot points I could guess I was still excited to see how they would play out. Briony had thought she’d feel right at home here, but instead she felt stuck inside a bizarre time capsule of her childhood fantasies.

But do we also see that he can’t spend his whole life being desperate, angry, self-loathing, and bitter unless he wants that life to be very short and very miserable?

The characters split into two groups — those who want to break the curse by dismantling the tournament piece by piece and end the bloodbath for good, and the ones who still want to fight as was always intended. All of our Demise by Amanda Food” is a popular book that is now available for download in PDF and ePub format. Overall, it was delightfully and heartachingly addictive to follow the journey of Ilvernath´s Slaughter Seven. Yet there's the deadly fun of The Hunger Games here, with an extra dollop of heart under the addictive wickedness. We learn so much more about each of the champions--and their home lives, before--that I found my own opinions changing over time.
