It isn't nearly as big as the 67-inch-tall NBA Jam Shaq Edition machine with its 19-inch screen and four-player controls, but that's its own special Shaq-centric case. Still, the Deluxe cabinet has an edge over the non-Deluxe version due to it being close in size to a true arcade machine and not a mini cabinet that needs to be boosted up on a box so it's playable while you're standing. Nostalgia vs. Reality

The games are emulated, but look and feel just as they did in the arcade. That means Mortal Kombat feels a bit stiff and Toobin has odd paddling, and that’s just fine. This is a nostalgia machine, and if you’re interested in it you know you’re getting into 30-year-old games with all their flaws and quirks. They’re still fun experiences, whether you're trying to perform a fatality on your friend in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, grinding through floor after floor in Gauntlet, or serving root beers in Root Beer Tapper. Iconic arcade games. Pop culture imagery that has stood the test of time. Nostalgia that transcends generations. We call this the “Legacy Edition” for a reason…make that many reasons! Arcade1Up sent a riser along with the Mortal Kombat cabinet, and as a 6'2" individual, I highly recommend getting one if you plan to add any these cabinets to your collection. It brings up the machine another foot off the floor, just enough to make it playing it comfortable from a standing position. I still ended up using a bar stool from my kitchen to play, but the riser is a great addition. The 17-inch screen on the Mortal Kombat Arcade1Up cabinet is impressive. It's extremely bright and I didn't notice any smearing or other ugly ghosting effects. The vintage 1990s graphics look awesome on the screen, with bright colors and a deep red in the important pixelated blood, of which there is a lot.

See ItThe on/off button does exactly what you'd expect it to do, and once the Arcade1Up boots up, you choose which game you want and you can let it run in attract mode, just like the real arcade cabinet. It pretty obvious an arcade machine with arcade ROMs would include the attract mode, but I still found it delightful to leave the cabinet on with the volume off and have Mortal Kombatants squaring off, trying to entice me to play. It's also a great way to make a guest excitedly ask "Wait a second, is that Mortal Kombat?"Okay, ready to get fatal with this Collectorcade ™? Yes, here we have Midway’s infamous contribution to the history of arcade gaming, MORTAL KOMBAT 3™, along with its revered follow ups MORTAL KOMBAT II™ and ULTIMATE MORTAL KOMBAT 3™! The question remains with Arcade1Up cabinets: what sacrifices have to be made to get a 4-foot arcade cabinet replica in your home? The good news is the Mortal Kombat Arcade1Up cabinet (See it at Walmart)manages to distill the arcade Mortal Kombat experience into a device without a lot of sacrifices. Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands) may take longer to reach you.

The games are emulated, with a few options available for each one. Most games let you set the difficulty settings, along with some variables like how much health you get per “coin” (pressing that player’s start button) in Gauntlet. You can also toggle an aggressive scanline filter, but that’s it. A scanline filter can’t really reproduce the look of a CRT monitor when showing old games. Still, the cabinet’s 17-inch LCD offers a bright, colorful, and crisp picture, with arcade graphics upconverted to 960p on a 1080p screen sharply through emulation. It doesn’t add any detail, but it doesn’t make the huge pixels look fuzzy or blotchy, either. The cabinet has top-notch presentation, looking almost like an official Mortal Kombat II machine that would be found in an arcade. Its colorful, glossy side panels show Raiden calling down lightning, and the marquee lights up with the Mortal Kombat II logo. The downward-facing speakers below the marquee are covered by circular metal grilles, looking much nicer than the punched holes of the non-Deluxe cabinets' speakers.
