You get conductors who think that orchestral players are just barely-skilled minions (and treat them like children), and players who think some conductors are just sadists and/or failed players themselves. Autor descreve várias dos carros que construiu durante sua carreira e fatores que influenciaram na suas tomadas de decisão e inspiração. I'm a lifelong admirer of his engineering and design skills, but I have to confess that he went down ever so slightly in my estimation after I once spotted an inflatable ring cushion on his office chair. This is the memoir of Adrian Newey, the British Formula One engineer who currently is the chief technician of the F1’s Red Bull team. Damon Hill The world's foremost designer in Formula One, Adrian Newey OBE is arguably one of Britain's greatest engineers and this is his fascinating, powerful memoir.

It attracted huge international attention as Formula 1 champions including Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi and Mario Andretti competed in it. Little wonder the finer details of an airbox configuration might have escaped his attention back then. For those F1 fans who wonder what Adrian Newey will be doing post-F1 – will see various hints dropped by Adrian throughout the book – you’ll have to read it to find out. It spans from his earliest childhood memories to his current Formula One career with Redbull Racing / Redbull Advanced Technologies; charting both personal and professional insights with his likeable, firm but fair style. Newey is more informative about aerodynamic tweaks than most articles I've read about barge boards, wing end plates and sculpted wishbones.pages of illustrations showing you how to draw the shapes and proportions of African animals such as Lions, Zebras, Elephants etc.

Adrian has designed for the likes of Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, always with a shark-like purity of purpose: to make the car go faster. There is a lot of technical terminology used but most important concepts are explained within each discussion and there is a handy glossary at the back if anything needs further explanation. I'm with you Nick, read it in just over a day and was thoroughly engrossed, as Adrian finally commented, the avenues for him to exploit an advantage these days are virtually non existent.

How to Build a Car explores the story of Adrian's unrivalled 35-year career in Formula One through the prism of the cars he has designed, the drivers he has worked alongside and the races in which he's been involved. As Jack-the-Lad has said, this is a fairly standard way of assessing the factual content of books (etc) - which I've used, whether for personal purposes or for reviews I've had to do professionally: start with the stuff you do know about and see what they made of that. It's a uniquely written book, which doesn't look like an autobiography but is in fact a brilliant one. However, I've noticed a great similarity between the respect or otherwise that mechanics may have for their drivers, and the respect or otherwise that orchestral musicians may have for a conductor, and it's often the first impressions that create the mould. Many fascinating and amusing tales, such as Ron Dennis' reaction to Newey having his office anything other than grey. I have Adrian Newey's book on the way, most seem to agree with your opinions, but I'm slightly surprised by what you say about the Priestley book. Adrian also offers some honest self-analysis of his personal life and delves into memories of his family, his children and effect of his job on his past marriages as his career his flourished.
